Uber has slowed hiring in some areas due to AI, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said earlier this year, and employees are generally expected to be more productive.Many Big Tech companies have also pulled back on foreign workers in the wake of big changes to the H-1B visa program, including a hefty fee, initiated by the Trump Administration last year. The program allows companies to temporarily employ foreign workers for specialty jobs in the US.Uber's latest visa filings in 2026 offer insight into how the company is approaching hiring foreign workers and how much it pays new employees. Uber filed applications to hire 364 workers through the H-1B visa program during the first half of the 2026 federal fiscal year, according to filings with the US Department of Labor. That's down from 497 filings submitted in the same period last year.Many of those applications are for software engineers and other roles affected by AI.The highest-paid job in the dataset had a salary of $410,000. The lowest-paying role, meanwhile, had a base pay of $94,331. Uber did not respond to a request for comment.The company ended 2025 with about 34,000 employees globally, according to its annual report.
